Feeding the community

Every Wednesday at the Coexist Community Kitchen our team, and a group of amazing volunteers, prepare and cook up to 150 free meals that are available to anyone in the community who may need them. We always use fresh produce and ingredients to make sure each and every meal is packed with nutrition, and thanks to our brilliantly creative team, the menu is always changing!

This service is made possible thanks to food donations that we get from various food banks, farms and allotments in and around Bristol. Since we began the service in 2020, we’ve welcomed regular donations from organisations such as FareShare South West, Edible Futures, Nibley Leaves and St Werburgh's City Farm. We also rely on our brilliant team of volunteers who generously donate their time each week to help prepare these meals.

Our Community Meals started out during the Coronavirus lockdown in March 2020. In line with government requirements, we stopped all our core activities and transformed the kitchen into an emergency food provision service. During this time, we partnered with local support services such as Caring in Bristol, Bristol Food Union and National Food Service to pack and deliver thousands of nourishing meals to people across Bristol.

Today, Community Meals is one of our primary outreach services. Although it began as an emergency response during the pandemic, we have seen continued need within the community due to the rising cost of food and energy.

We plan to continue this service for as long as it is needed.
